York attracts investment boost from down under

A major player in the worldwide professional services market, GHD Pty Ltd has announced that it is establishing a new office in York to provide a strategic base for the company's growing European operations.

Serving the global market sectors of infrastructure, mining and industry, property and buildings, defence and the environment, GHD has secured 300 square metres of office space on York Science Park and Tom Pinzone, GHD's Director of Business Development and Business Leader Transport has relocated from Sydney to set up the operation.

The company has plans to expand its European operations significantly over the next two years and has already recruited eight employees, including York engineer David Marsden, who has been appointed UK Manager.

GHD is ranked in the world's top 30 engineering and architecture companies, has a turnover of AUD 500 million and employs over 4,500 people across the globe. The company excels at delivering innovative solutions and has been involved in projects ranging from infrastructure management for the Sydney Olympics to master planning for one of the world's largest man-made islands, Palm Jebel Ali near Dubai.

Yorkshire Forward worked alongside york-england.com to support this major new investment in York, which will see GHD expand their global network in areas of transport and asset management, water and the environment.

The region's thriving chemicals industry and excellent transport links into Europe were just some of the assets that attracted the company to Yorkshire and Humber.

There are also excellent transport links, which are vital for our work in Europe, the University of York is very well respected in our areas of expertise, plus it is a very pleasant place to live and work."
