New Offices For Northern Rail
Northern Rail today confirmed its commitment to York when it officially opened its new support offices at the aptly named Northern House.
Previously based at Main Headquarters and West Offices on Station Rise, 250 employees working in Northern Rail's support functions such as Safety, Performance and Planning, Engineering and Human Resources, are now all under one roof on four floors in the newly refurbished Northern House.
Heidi Mottram, Managing Director, Northern Rail said: "Northern House provides modern facilities and an open plan layout that deliver real improvements to the working environment of our employees who support our frontline teams."
"At a time of uncertainty in the local job market this move also signals our continued commitment to the City of York."
Richard Wood of developers Oakgate commented: ""We are delighted that Northern Rail have moved into the re-named Northern House. They have relocated from the nearby West Offices and Main Headquarters in Station Rise and it is fitting they remain committed to an historic railway city like York.
"These are superb offices. We stripped the old Blackfriars House to its shell and have completely overhauled the building. The offices feature large open plan floor plates, high-quality finishes including comfort cooling and air-conditioning and on-site car parking with 90 covered cycle bays," he explained.
He added: " "There has been huge interest in the rest of Northern House and it is now fully let. Quality office space in York city centre is at a premium and the 19,000 sq ft ground floor provides one of the city's largest floor plates.
Denise Stuart, the chief executive of york-england.com, who officially opened Northern House, commented; " It is excellent news for the city that Northern Rail is moving into Northern House. By keeping its headquarters in York many jobs are retained in the city of York and we are delighted by that."
