York start-up company plans recruitment drive for skilled craftsmen

A newly launched York start-up company, Manor House Developments (UK) Ltd, has announced ambitious plans for the future including the creation of 15 new jobs by the middle of 2007. Established last month by Graham Tew and Mark Nelson, the company will specialise in the building and refurbishment of quality housing and has already started work on the development of four houses and two barn conversions at one site in Boston Spa.

Mark, who is from York, and Graham, originally from Nottinghamshire, have both worked in the construction industry in the Yorkshire area for over twenty years and have specific experience of the house building and refurbishment sector. They believe that the York housing market is set to grow, and are confident that their plans to recruit their own team of skilled craftsmen will reap rewards.

Graham Tew, partner of Manor House Developments commented: "The York housing market is particularly buoyant at the moment, and it seemed the perfect time to launch the company. There is growing interest in the refurbishment of older buildings, either as part of inner city living developments, or as conversions from old farm buildings, and both these types of projects need a sensitive and experienced approach which Manor House Developments can provide. Building up our own Team of directly-employed craftsman to deliver these types of projects will strengthen our service offering and position us as one of the leading refurbishment and property development companies in the area."

"We have been very encouraged by the amount of interest we have received in the new company already, and have many exciting projects in the pipeline. We have also had a great reception from York's supply and services businesses who have been fantastic in helping us set the business up." added Mark.

york-england.com, the Inward Investment Board for York and North Yorkshire, assisted Manor House Developments in securing office premises at Evans Easy Space on York Business Park, near Poppleton, and are also helping to introduce the company into the York business community. Denise Stuart, Chief Executive, york-england.com said: "Manor House Developments is a great example of a new start-up business targeting a very specific local market and tailoring their skills and expertise to provide a service that is obviously in demand. The fact that they plan to grow the number of staff they employ so quickly is of course hugely positive and we wish them much success in the future."

Theresa Lindsay, Head of Marketing at Yorkshire Forward said: "Construction is one of Yorkshire and Humber's fastest growing industries and showing excellent potential for further growth. Manor House Developments is a very ambitious, dynamic new company for York and the surrounding area and their very clear focus on the services they can provide is to be commended. They have already got off to a great start and I am sure they will continue to flourish."
