Following the success of the first York Design Awards in 2007, launched by the then Lord Mayor, Cllr Janet Hopton, the York Design Awards now enter their second year.

The aim of the Awards is to encourage and promote excellence in conservation and outstanding distinctive contemporary design, striving for the highest standard of design in 21st Century developments which will contribute to York’s great heritage.   There are four main categories: New Build to include Domestic, Residential, Commercial and Public; Conservation; Conversion/Reuse; Public Space and Landscape.   Applications for projects of all sizes will be considered under each category.

Last year the Awards were recognised by HRH the Duke of York who wrote to Janet Hopton and said: “We all agree York is a beautiful City and we must continuously improve its design and architecture.   The design of new buildings and the restoration of old will play an important part in the overall look of the City in the 21st Century.”
