A New Interactive Skills Event is launched in Yorkshire and the Humber
A brand new skills event is coming to the Sheffield Arena on 8-9 October 2008. Skills Yorkshire and the Humber aims to raise awareness of the employment and training opportunities the region has to offer and will encourage young people to stay and contribute to the local economy.
This engaging event - with hands on demonstrations and activities highlighting every type of career from engineering and manufacturing to fitness and hospitality through to a host of other industries - will showcase opportunities that many young people may not have considered or even know exist.
An exciting mix of exhibitors from regional and national employers to colleges, universities, training providers and other professional organisations will be at Skills Yorkshire and the Humber.
Schools and colleges in the region can book groups of students to visit on either of the two days and travel bursaries are available. The event will open on Wednesday evening giving parents and carers a chance to be involved with their children's future opportunities.
The event will be run in partnership with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). Margaret Coleman, Regional Director for the LSC in Yorkshire and the Humber, said
"Our region is bursting with opportunities for young people and this event is about helping to identify the best route for each individual whether that is an Apprenticeship, vocational qualification, a degree or another form of learning."
Andrew Coates on behalf of events organisers Prospects and RECEX said "We are very excited about the Skills Yorkshire and the Humber event, it will help to inspire young people in the region towards their important future career decisions. Any organisations interested in taking part in the event or organising groups to visit should contact us on 01278 422301."
