Education Endorsement for curriculART

Just weeks since the formal launch of its new on-line education resource, York-based business curriculART is celebrating accreditation by Curriculum Online. Curriculum Online is central to the Department for Children, Schools and Families’ (formerly DfES) drive to transform school teaching and learning by improving access to multimedia resources for all pupils.

The new website, brainchild of curriculART founders Anne Hutchison and Gail Fox, is now listed as an approved multimedia resource on Curriculum Online, the government standard educational resource bank for the teaching profession.

curriculART is a web-based resource for primary school teachers providing innovative art and craft projects linked to every area of the curriculum.  Designed to support and assist teachers weave creativity into the fabric of the curriculum, curriculART is quickly establishing itself as an invaluable tool for supporting cross-curricular teaching to primary school children.

Anne and Gail have worked in art education in primary schools across York for over two decades. Both are practising artists and educators with strong business backgrounds and their combined talents have been the foundation of a successful partnership for many years.

They share a vision and commitment to increase creativity across the curriculum, so the current drive for cross curricular primary school teaching revealed a great opportunity for Gail and Anne to realise their new strategy.

Their entrepreneurial skills were formally recognised last year when they were awarded the prestigious Merchant Adventurers’ Prize for Enterprise. The prize fund helped Gail and Anne secure the much-needed technical skills of York web developers Designition, who helped turn the award-winning idea into a highly marketable product.

Anne said: ‘We’re naturally delighted that only twelve months since first taking our idea forward into a viable business, we are able to celebrate formal accreditation. Since the
launch we’ve attracted a regular stream of new subscribers. Endorsement at such a high level will prove invaluable to our long-term success.’

‘This is a remarkable achievement for curriculART and a real boost for business,’ said Dr Deborah Girdlestone, Business Promoter at Science City York, who has worked with curriculART from the outset. ‘It’s also very rewarding to see collaboration between two businesses from the Science City York networks lead to such a successful outcome.’

Gail and Anne are now setting their sights on further industry recognition having been short listed for the 2008 Insider Yorkshire Digital Awards, Best E-Learning Initiative. The winners will be presented on May 8  at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
