Innovator 2010 Awards are Open for Business

Tuesday 29th September 2009

The Innovator 2010 awards are now open for entries and innovative companies and individuals across the region are being invited to compete for one of the four awards, carrying a £3,000 prize.

Even as better economic times ahead are heralded, it remains important for both businesses, large and small, to continue to be competitive by embracing innovation and new ideas and creating knowledge based partnerships for the development of their products and services.

Established in 2008, Yorkshire Forward’s Innovator 2010 awards celebrate companies and individuals in Yorkshire and Humber who have embraced innovation and developed, alone or in partnership, new ideas, products, technologies or ways of working in order to improve their business.

This year, four new categories are designed to showcase the very best of the region’s innovators, giving entrants the opportunity to raise their profile with clients and potential new customers, and demonstrate their commitment to being a leader in their field:

  •  Young Innovative Business Award – to reward and celebrate young businesses that have demonstrated creativity and entrepreneurial flair in the launch and early growth of a business based on innovative products, processes or services.
  • Innovation in Action Award – to reward and celebrate an innovative new product, process or service developed in Yorkshire & Humber which represents a significant advancement for an industry or sector, and which offers outstanding opportunities for future commercial success.
  • Partners in Innovation Award – to reward and celebrate businesses that have collaborated with and used the resources and knowledge of the region’s research community on a defined project, which has resulted in the successful development of an innovation with potential to deliver significant commercial success.
  • Sustainability Innovation Award – to reward and celebrate outstanding advances by Yorkshire & Humber businesses in environmental sustainability through the development and marketing of innovative products, processes and services, or through the innovative management of natural, manufactured and human resources.

Jim Farmery, assistant director of business for Yorkshire Forward, said: “The Innovator Awards have gone from strength to strength since we launched them in 2008 and they are a great opportunity to demonstrate how our region’s businesses are innovating in order to remain competitive in the current economic climate.

“We are now looking to work our way towards a brighter economic future but companies still need to stay ahead of the game and innovation is key to this. It’s also important that we continue to reward companies and individuals for their dedication to innovation in their work – whether this is alone or in partnership.”
