Hovis bread rises

Sales of Hovis bread have increased 22 per cent in the third quarter, Premier Foods has said in an interim management statement for the 13 weeks to 26 September 2009.
Hovis, which is made in Selby, North Yorkshire, as well as Rotherham, Bradford and Gainsborough, has increased market share to 26.2 per cent from 22.8 per centin 2008.
The group reduced its retailer brand bread volumes by exiting unprofitable contracts and as such 72 per cent of its sales are now branded, up from 63 per cent in the same period last year.
Premier Foods reported success in branded products, increasing sales by six per cent across the group.
