Aussie entrepreneur bound for Venturefest
Wednesday 13th January 2010
Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Bill Liao is to deliver the keynote address at Venturefest Yorkshire, the event for entrepreneurs and young businesses, and is also offering to invest £15,500 in a new business.
Mr Liao will share his thoughts on doing business responsibly alongside corporate wisdom gained over the course of a 25-year career as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and author.
Mr Liao, who has offered to invest in a young business at Venturefest if one catches his eye, has seven company flotations on his CV, as well as being the founder of social networking service Xing and the creator of philanthropic venture, Neo.
His latest initiative, weforest.com, is an organisation promoting reforestation as a way to combat global warming, poverty and water shortages.
Around 2,000 people are expected to converge on York Racecourse on February 10 to take advantage of a day of workshops, seminars and networking opportunities designed to help businesses hone their skills and meet new contacts who can help them move forward.
During the day, delegates will be able to get the inside track on what makes an investor invest; pick up tips to make sure their investment pitch is worth hearing and find out more about the funding routes open to businesses.
Serial entrepreneur and sales guru, Grant Leboff, will challenge delegates to “rip up the sales book” and adopt a new perspective on selling, by using the Internet.
Delegates can also learn the science behind the 'elevator pitch’ and leave with a version that they can try out throughout the day as they take advantage of the countless networking opportunities on offer.
They can also refresh their customer service skills at a Building Customer and Client Relationships workshop with Nick Bramley; and learn to use social networking to help take their business forward.
The day will round off with the Venturefest awards dinner, compered by TheBusinessDesk.com's editor, David Parkin, where delegates will find out who most impressed the 'dragons’ in the annual investment competition and discover who are the region’s next bright young things.
