Are you a business leader who believes that investing in workforce skills is key to business growth?

If so, you may be interested in this opportunity to set the direction and priorities for public investment in adult skills and employment programmes across the Leeds City Region.

The Opportunity

  • To develop a pioneering Board, one of only two outside of London to be given the opportunity to take on skills strategy-setting powers devolved from Government
  • To champion investment in skills and drive up the demand for training and learning within your sector/industry
  • To serve on a high-profile, nationally-recognised private-public Board.

The People:

We are looking for at least six Chief Executives or Senior Directors from across our key employment and business sectors to join the Board in the capacity of Member or Chair.  Possessing the following qualities and experience will be essential:

  • A clear strategic vision, excellent communication and leadership skills and a demonstrable understanding of how skills and employment drive economic prosperity
  • Significant current experience as an employer based within the City Region*
  • Well connected with demonstrable links with other businesses and organisations, including other key employers within your sector
  • Commitment to serve for up to three years: at quarterly Board meetings and for up to half a day per month to champion the work of the Board.  It is anticipated that the Chair will contribute up to 3 days per month in the fulfilment of this key role.

*The Leeds City Region area covers Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees, Wakefield, Calderdale, York, Harrogate, Selby, Craven and Barnsley.

Interest is welcome from small, medium and large employers; we are keen to attract high calibre business men and women from all sectors of our diverse communities.  These positions are voluntary; however expenses will be reimbursed.
