Selby
Located in the heart of Yorkshire, Selby district is a fascinating mix of open countryside, market towns, charming villages, and intriguing history.
The district of Selby is in an excellent location, with York to the North, Leeds to the West and Doncaster to the South. The district itself includes Selby town, an appealing market town, whose prospects have been further strengthened by the addition of a new bypass, which has opened up the area for investment. Tadcaster is famously the home to three of the UK's best-known brewers - John Smiths, Samuel Smiths and Coors.
Features of the districts' history have not been lost in the modernisation and there are many examples of fine architecture in the area. Selby Abbey is an impressive and unique structure and is one of the very few abbeys in England that has successfully survived as a parish church.
Residents are offered an outstanding quality of life in the area, there are plenty of places in which to wine and dine, including Singers restaurant in Tadcaster, which was recognised in the Which? Good Food Guide 2007. There are also ample leisure and fitness opportunities. The Eastern stage of the Trans Pennine Trail runs through the area and provides residents with the perfect opportunity to combine their fitness and leisure pursuits with the outstanding environment on offer.
